First Week of School

It's a done deal! The first week of PA school is in the books. I passed my medical terminolgy exam...what a relief! 2 kids got kicked out...bummer. School is starting to get pretty intense though. The days are long and the amount of reading is ridiculous. My classmates are great, everyone seems really friendly and helpful. I'm still getting adjusted to wearing a shirt and tie to class everyday...I feel so grown up. 1 week down, 103 left to go!

Last Thursday we experienced our first flash flood. After I had gotten out of class it started raining really hard...wait it wasn't rain, it was buckets of water coming down. I had never seen so much rain come down so hard! By the time I had gotten home the water in the street was up to my shin, luckily we didn't have any water damage...whew!

Yesterday we were planning to go to the beach and get some body surfing in, but the skies looked gray :( so we went to Home Depot instead :) and bought caulk to seal the cracks and crevices along the bottom of our walls.
Today we went to go watch the Yankees play the Kanssas City Royals. I'm not a big baseball fan, but I had a great time. The weather was beautiful, we had our hotdogs & crackerjacks and the Yankees won in extra innings...what more could you ask for?
Michael Phelps just won his 8th gold medal....wow! Anyways, it's time to go study now...

New Yorkers!

Well, it’s official, we’re New Yorkers! Our place is looking way nicer than anything I had expected. NYC is starting to feel like home now. We haven’t been working, but things have been really busy and expensive. Recently I’ve been busy with a few projects around the house. I’ve installed 2 deadbolt locks, a peephole, screen door lock and a motion sensor light for the back porch. I’m kinda thinkin if I should’ve gone into carpentry?…seems like a fun job. Afton has been making fun of me for going to Home Depot everyday and aimlessly wandering around looking for new projects to take on…lol. I take this seriously! Yesterday we got a new GPS system from Circuit City. It’s pretty much amazing. It’s smarter than Google Maps and that’s near impossible. It sure would’ve helped to have had it a couple weeks ago. Our friends JD and Gerritt are coming out to visit tomorrow for a couple of days…it’ll be nice to see some familiar faces. School starts Monday and I have a big med. term. exam that I need to pass in order to remain in the program. To be continued…

week 2

All right! I'm not sure how this blog thing works. Will tells me it's easy enough though. We've been in NY for 8 whole days now and we are loving it. Our first week here has been busy busy busy! Getting unpacked and settled in. We'll have to post pictures of our new place. It's lovely here. We've been driving around trying to get used to the area. Driving in NY is something else. It always seems like rush hour. So everything seems to take longer than it should. And we keep getting lost :) There are no mountains out here to reference! We'll figure it out eventually.
There are so many cultures here. I think I am the only caucasian in our neighborhood. Our neighbors on each side are korean. And there are lots of jamaicans and african americans and I think some russians and hispanics and lots more i'm sure. So in that way I feel far from home sometimes. But it's exciting. We feel lucky to be here. And we just realized that since we haven't been working, we've been together almost 24 hrs a day for the last two weeks. And we haven't gone crazy yet :) which is good. Will starts school next week and hopefully I start work soon. So we're enjoying our time together while we can!! I think that's about it for now. Nothing too exciting. No babies :) no crazy gun fights ;) We'll keep you posted!! love ya'll

Moving to NY

Afton and I have closed a chapter in our lives and are starting on another. We left Salt Lake on the 24th of July and made our way to New York. Our first day was a long one. Our final destination for the day was Lincoln, NE. On our way there we ran into a bit of trouble in small town called Brady in NE. As we were filling up with gas, loud radiating sirens started going off. There was a tornado nearby! We went into a nearby holiday inn for shelter until the tornado passed...the sky looked crazy! We didn't get to our hotel until about 2 in the morning. The final destination of our second day was Richfield, Ohio. On the way we made a stop in South Bend, IN...home of the Fighting Irish! to see Notre Dame Stadium and "Touchdown Jesus"....all I have to say is wow! Our third day we finally made it to NYC! The traffic was horrid, but we survived. We're now slowly starting to unpack and get settled into our new place in Fresh Meadows, NY.
